Wendell W. Lyons Advocacy in Action Award
Many credit unions are actively building relationships with and educating policymakers on issues important to credit unions and their members. Because successful advocacy depends on action by public policy-making bodies such as legislators and regulators, the Association seeks to recognize the grassroots efforts of outstanding credit union advocates who consistently and successfully promote credit union issues and make a positive impact on elected and appointed officials.
The Association’s Advocacy in Action Award will be bestowed on an individual, credit union or a team, such as a Chapter or credit union group, that meet the award criteria. This award will may not be given out annually.
If awarded, the recipient or recipients will be announced at the Kentucky Credit Union League's Annual Meeting Banquet.

- Chapter Attendance Award
The Chapter Attendance Award was established to give recognition to chapters that each year reach out to the greatest number of members within their chapter area. To make sure the large chapters do not dominate, the award goes to the chapter with the highest percentage of eligible credit unions within the chapter area to be consistently represented at the chapter’s meetings over a twelve-month period from September through August.
The chapter selected will be recognized at the League’s Annual Meeting banquet.
Entry deadline date is JULY 14, 2024.
CUNA Awards
Administered by the Kentucky Credit Union League & Affiliates and CUNA, the Louise Herring, Dora Maxwell and Alphonse Desjardins awards programs are a wonderful way for credit unions to showcase all the great things they do for their members and their communities.
Our League will continue to host our own state-level awards programs in 2024. However, the 'national level' awards that would have been affiliated with these, but facilitated by CUNA, will not be held this year.
Below you'll find a brief description of each of the programs:
Louise Herring Award The purpose of this award is to promote credit union philosophy by formally recognizing credit unions that demonstrate in an extraordinary way the practical application of that philosophy for their members.
Dora Maxwell Award The purpose of this award is to promote social responsibility among credit unions by formally recognizing their community service achievements.
Alphonse Desjardins Award Alphonse Desjardins was a credit union pioneer who was instrumental in forming the Canadian and U.S. credit union movements. Besides helping to found the first credit unions in Canada and the U.S., Desjardins pioneered youth savings clubs and in-school "banks", known as caisses scolaires. This award honors leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of youth and adult financial literacy.
In an effort to streamline the submission process for our member credit unions and to reduce financial and human resources spent on the submission process, CUNA and the Leagues have collaborated to produce one standardized format and online submission process for our member credit unions.
Submission Instructions You will automatically establish an account when you create an application to submit your first project by clicking on the designated link below. You may save your work and return to the submission site as often as needed as long as you complete and submit all parts of the project submission by the due date of JUNE 7, 2024. State winners will advance to the national competition for judging.
